The Federal Government has announced a monthly cash relief of ₦50,000 for eligible vulnerable Nigerians under a new intervention aimed at cushioning the impact of rising living costs.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bernard Doro, disclosed this in a statement released in Abuja on Friday.
According to him, the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI) is a presidential initiative designed to provide immediate financial support to millions of Nigerians struggling with increasing food prices and the rising cost of essential commodities.
“Under this intervention, eligible beneficiaries will receive ₦50,000 monthly, providing direct assistance to help meet essential needs and ease the burden of living costs,” Doro stated.
He explained that the programme would undergo periodic reviews based on prevailing economic conditions, adding that beneficiaries would be informed directly before any changes were introduced.
The minister said the government had partnered with licensed digital financial service providers to ensure that payments were made securely, transparently and without unnecessary delays.
He added that selected beneficiaries would receive text messages requesting their consent before the money is transferred directly into their bank accounts or mobile wallets.
Doro emphasised that Nigerians do not need to submit applications, pay registration fees or go through agents to benefit from the programme.
He added that NERSI was part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, assuring that its implementation would be guided by dignity, transparency and accountability.
