APC Campaign Students Affairs Committee holds inaugural meeting, targets stronger grassroots engagement
The Ogun State Campaign Students Affairs Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has held its inaugural meeting, with High Chief Bode Mustapha charging student leaders to embrace responsible leadership, political maturity, discipline and unity as the party strengthens its organisational structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The meeting, held on Thursday, October 22, 2026, brought together student leaders and key stakeholders to deliberate on strategic engagement, organisational coordination and ways to enhance student participation in the party's activities across Ogun State.
The gathering marked a significant step towards building a coordinated framework for student involvement in political activities, leadership development and campaign mobilisation across tertiary institutions in the state.
Addressing the participants, High Chief Mustapha emphasised the importance of purposeful leadership, constructive engagement and dedication to organisational goals, urging student leaders to recognise the responsibilities that accompany their positions.
He stressed that effective leadership requires more than occupying positions, noting that student leaders must demonstrate integrity, wisdom, discipline and a strong sense of responsibility in their interactions with fellow students and party stakeholders.
According to him, student leaders occupy a strategic position in political mobilisation, particularly in promoting political awareness, strengthening grassroots structures and maintaining effective communication between the party and students across tertiary institutions.
He urged the leaders to discharge their duties with maturity and a clear understanding of the expectations associated with leadership, stressing that their conduct and level of commitment would be crucial to achieving the committee's objectives.
Mustapha also underscored the need for cooperation and mutual respect among members, encouraging them to put aside differences, work collectively and pursue a common vision for organisational development.
He maintained that unity and discipline remained essential ingredients for building a formidable political structure, particularly as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The APC chieftain's charge comes at a time when student engagement and youth participation are expected to feature prominently in political mobilisation, public communication and grassroots outreach ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Student leaders, given their proximity to young people within educational institutions, are strategically positioned to encourage informed political participation, communicate party programmes and foster constructive dialogue on governance and development.
The inaugural meeting therefore provided an opportunity for stakeholders to consider how best to coordinate student-related activities, strengthen internal communication and establish a more effective platform for engagement across Ogun State.
Beyond campaign mobilisation, the committee's stated objectives include promoting responsible political participation and encouraging leadership development among students, who represent an important segment of the state's youthful population.
The committee is expected to play a role in coordinating student engagement with the party's campaign structures while encouraging orderly participation and cooperation among student leaders from different institutions.
Observers of the political process often regard youth and student participation as important components of democratic development, particularly when such involvement is guided by political education, peaceful engagement and respect for differing opinions.
For the APC in Ogun State, a coordinated student affairs structure could provide an avenue for strengthening communication with young people, expanding grassroots engagement and encouraging greater awareness of the party's programmes and policy positions.
The committee reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening organisational coordination, promoting responsible political participation and fostering constructive engagement with students across the state.
It also expressed its resolve to advance leadership development and ensure that student-related activities are conducted within a framework that promotes discipline, cooperation and shared responsibility.
The inaugural meeting is expected to serve as a foundation for subsequent engagements aimed at consolidating the committee's structure and improving its capacity to deliver on its mandate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The meeting concluded with a renewed emphasis on responsible leadership, unity and commitment as guiding principles for student leaders participating in the APC's political and organisational activities in Ogun State.
