Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has congratulated Oba Taiwo Adenaike Ogunbona, Fibigbuwa IV, on his ascension to the revered throne of the Alaperu of Iperu-Remo, urging the new monarch to make peace, unity, cultural preservation and inclusive development the cornerstones of his reign.

Oba Ogunbona ascended the ancestral throne on Saturday, October 17, 2026, marking a significant moment in the history of Iperu-Remo and the continuation of the community’s longstanding traditional heritage.

In a congratulatory message issued on behalf of his family, the Ogun State Government and the people of the state, Governor Abiodun described the monarch’s emergence as the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the ancient kingdom.

The governor noted that the development reflected the enduring relevance of traditional institutions, the richness of Ogun State’s cultural heritage and the collective aspirations of the people for peace, unity, progress and sustainable development.

Abiodun, who described himself as a proud son of Iperu Akesan Land, said the monarch’s ascension was not only a moment of pride and celebration for the community but also a reminder of the collective responsibility to protect and preserve its cherished customs, traditions and cultural values.

He stressed that the traditional throne carries significant responsibilities beyond its ceremonial importance, particularly in preserving the kingdom’s heritage, fostering peaceful coexistence and providing purposeful traditional leadership capable of advancing the welfare of the people.

According to the governor, the new monarch has an important role to play in strengthening the bonds of unity among residents, promoting mutual understanding and ensuring that the traditional institution remains a rallying point for the community’s collective aspirations.

Abiodun expressed confidence that Oba Ogunbona would bring his experience, wisdom and commitment to bear on the responsibilities of his new position, expressing optimism that his reign would inspire renewed efforts towards the growth, prosperity and overall development of Iperu Akesan Land.

He further urged the monarch to embrace an inclusive approach to traditional leadership by encouraging peaceful relationships among the people, accommodating diverse interests and promoting initiatives that would improve the social and economic well-being of the kingdom.

The governor also emphasised the importance of stronger collaboration among the traditional institution, government and community stakeholders, noting that cooperation among these groups would be instrumental in addressing local challenges and advancing development.

Such collaboration, he indicated, would help create an enabling environment for progress while strengthening the role of traditional rulers in promoting social harmony, community participation and the preservation of cultural identity.

The governor’s message underscored the importance of traditional rulers in fostering grassroots development and maintaining peaceful relationships within their communities, particularly at a time when unity and collective responsibility remain essential to sustainable progress.

Abiodun also offered prayers for divine guidance, wisdom, sound health and strength for the monarch as he begins his reign, wishing him a long, peaceful and prosperous stay on the throne.

He expressed the hope that the reign of Oba Ogunbona would usher in unprecedented development in Iperu Akesan Land and leave behind a lasting legacy of honour, unity, cultural pride and progress for present and future generations.

The emergence of Oba Ogunbona as Alaperu of Iperu-Remo therefore presents an opportunity to consolidate the community’s traditional heritage while pursuing a shared vision of peace, stability and development.

As the new monarch assumes the responsibilities of the revered stool, expectations will centre on his ability to unite the people, preserve the kingdom’s cultural values and work with relevant stakeholders to promote the collective interests of Iperu-Remo.

Governor Abiodun’s congratulatory message thus serves both as a recognition of the monarch’s ascension and a call for traditional leadership that places unity, peaceful coexistence and the welfare of the people at the heart of its responsibilities.
