......As Egbagbemi Community Declares Former Rep Benefactor, Hails His Intervention Projects
Former member of the House of Representatives representing Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, Hon. Lanre Edun, has commenced an aggressive grassroots mobilisation campaign in support of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as YAYI, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The mobilisation exercise, which commenced on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, took place in the Egbagbemi area of Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, where residents and community leaders turned out in large numbers to receive the former federal lawmaker.
Edun, who was warmly welcomed by residents in a colourful and enthusiastic display, used the occasion to reconnect with constituents and mobilise support for the APC candidates at both the state and federal levels by Hon Saheed Idowu, Area CDC Chairman and other All Progressives Congress APC members.
The former legislator's arrival was greeted with traditional music, a live band and songs of appreciation, as residents expressed their recognition of his contributions to the development and welfare of communities within the constituency.
Speaking during the mobilisation, members of the Egbagbemi Area Community Development Association described Edun as a benefactor of the community, citing his interventions in infrastructure and empowerment as evidence of his continued commitment to the people even after leaving the National Assembly.
The community recalled that Edun had facilitated the provision of three electricity transformers, street lights and other empowerment materials for residents, describing the interventions as practical contributions that had positively impacted lives at the grassroots.
According to the community, Edun's interventions demonstrated that his relationship with the people went beyond occupying public office, noting that he had continued to identify with the needs of his constituents after his tenure in the House of Representatives.
The former lawmaker was accompanied by Hon. Olaifa Jimoh Aremu, popularly known as OJA, a former member of the Federal House of Representatives who represented the Egbado North (Yewa North) and Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency of Ogun State.
OJA, while joining the mobilisation exercise, reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare and development of the people of Abeokuta South Federal Constituency and urged residents to remain united in supporting leaders who, according to him, have demonstrated commitment to grassroots development.
The mobilisation also attracted traditional and community leaders, including the Baale of Itoko Titun, Chief Akeem Ikanrende; Chief Okusolubo; Baale Laagba Olobi of Itoko Titun; and Chief Raji Sowemimo, Baale Adedilu Emere in Abeokuta South Federal Constituency.
The presence of the traditional rulers and community leaders added further colour to the gathering, as the event provided an opportunity for political mobilisation, community interaction and appreciation of Edun's previous interventions.
Addressing the gathering, Edun emphasised the importance of grassroots participation in the political process, calling on residents to take an active interest in the forthcoming elections and support candidates capable of sustaining development initiatives across Ogun State and Nigeria.
The mobilisation is coming as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, with stakeholders across Ogun State already strengthening their structures at the ward, community and local government levels.
Edun's latest engagement is expected to further deepen the APC's grassroots mobilisation efforts in Abeokuta South, particularly through direct interaction with community leaders, residents and other stakeholders.
For residents of Egbagbemi, however, the event was more than a political gathering. It was also an opportunity to acknowledge a former representative whom they said had remained connected to the people and responsive to community needs.
The enthusiastic reception accorded Edun, coupled with the commendation from community leaders, underscored the growing importance of grassroots engagement as political parties and their supporters prepare for the next electoral cycle.
With the mobilisation now underway, political observers expect similar engagements to spread across other communities in Abeokuta South as supporters of YAYI and President Tinubu intensify efforts to build a formidable grassroots network ahead of the 2027 elections.
