Speaking on Monday, Netanyahu said he was not worried about the prospect of being detained and intends to attend the annual gathering unless security concerns prevent the trip.
“I certainly intend to do so,” he said, noting that he has attended the UN General Assembly almost every year during his time as prime minister.
His comments came in response to New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, who recently said he would support efforts to enforce the ICC arrest warrant if Netanyahu visits the city.
The Israeli leader dismissed the ICC’s war crimes case against him and criticised Mamdani’s remarks, accusing the politician of promoting division.
Netanyahu’s planned visit comes amid continued international scrutiny of Israel’s military operations and the ICC’s ongoing efforts to pursue alleged war crimes committed during the conflict.
