KANO — The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old woman, identified as Maimunatu Idris from Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State, for allegedly attacking her boyfriend and severing his manhood during an altercation at a hotel in Kano.
The shocking incident reportedly occurred at Durbar Hotel in the Badawa area of Kano after the suspect allegedly discovered that her boyfriend intended to marry another woman.
Confirming the incident on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said officers swiftly responded after receiving a distress report.
According to the police spokesperson, the Divisional Police Officer led a team of detectives to the scene, where the suspect was arrested and the knife allegedly used in the attack was recovered as an exhibit.
"The victim was rushed to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment. Investigation into the incident is ongoing," Kiyawa stated.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, strongly condemned the act, describing it as a criminal offence that has no place in a civilised society.
The police commissioner also cautioned members of the public against resorting to violence or taking the law into their own hands in resolving personal or relationship disputes.
Bakori assured residents that the Command would carry out a thorough investigation and ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Meanwhile, an eyewitness, who works as a security officer near the hotel, told Daily Trust that the suspect allegedly lured the victim to the hotel after learning of his intention to end their relationship and marry another woman.
According to the eyewitness, the woman persuaded her boyfriend to lodge with her at the hotel so they could spend time together before allegedly using a sharp knife to attack him.
"She asked him to lodge at the hotel so they could stay together. It was there she seized the opportunity to cut his manhood," the eyewitness reportedly said.
The witness added that the suspect was immediately apprehended at the scene and handed over to the police, while the injured man was rushed to the hospital for emergency medical attention.
The incident has generated widespread reactions, with many residents expressing shock and calling for peaceful conflict resolution in relationships.
Police have reiterated that investigations are still ongoing and urged the public to allow the law to take its course rather than speculate on the circumstances surrounding the case.
