A 27-year-old Nigerian national, Obase Prosper, has been arrested in Delhi, India, after authorities allegedly recovered 5.085 kilograms of meth@mphetamine valued at over ₹10 crore from him.

According to Indian authorities, Obase entered the country on a medical visa but remained illegally after it expired in 2023.

He was arrested on Friday, July 17, 2026, during a joint operation by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Delhi.

Additional Superintendent of Police, STF, Vishal Vikram Singh, alleged that the suspect was a key member of an international romance sc@m syndicate that targeted Indian victims.

Police claimed the group created fake profiles on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, posing as citizens of the United States and the United Kingdom to lure Indian men and women into online romantic relationships.

Victims were allegedly told expensive gifts, foreign currency and valuables had been sent to them and were then asked to pay customs duty, GST and other fabricated charges before the items could be released.

The investigation reportedly intensified after a resident of Daligan, Lucknow, alleged he was defr@uded of nearly ₹68 lakh by someone posing on Facebook as “Doris William” from England.

Investigators said the victim was also sent a forged Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) certificate to make the sc@m appear legitimate. A case has been registered at the Madiaon Police Station in Lucknow, while investigations are ongoing.
