16-Year-Old Nigerian Boy D+es After Drowning in a Lake in the UK

A 16-year-old Nigerian boy, Iretomiwa Abiodun Micheal, popularly known as Tomiwa, has d+ed after getting into difficulty while in a lake in Lincoln, United Kingdom.

According to Lincolnshire Police, the incident occurred on July 9, 2026, at Swanholme Lakes. Officers received a call at about 5:48 p.m. raising concerns for the teenager’s safety. Emergency responders, including Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue and the East Midlands Ambulance Service, rescued him from the water and began treatment at the scene. 

Although he initially responded, he later d+ed in hospital at about 8:50 p.m. with his parents by his side. Police said a file will be submitted to the coroner to determine the circumstances surrounding the drowning.

In a heartfelt tribute released by the family, Tomiwa’s parents, Abiodun and Tope Micheal, described him as a vibrant, energetic and unforgettable young man whose laughter, warmth and joyful spirit brightened every room he entered.

They said he was the eldest of four brothers and embraced the role with pride, serving as a protector, guide and constant source of encouragement to his siblings. They also described him as disciplined, respectful and committed to living with purpose.

He was also an active member of his church’s youth ministry and was remembered for his strong faith, compassion and generosity.

His family said that although his life was cut short, he leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, discipline, joy and kindness, with cherished memories that will remain with everyone who knew him.
