Ogun Police Arrest Three Suspects Over Murder of Businesswoman and Security Guard
The Ogun State Police Command has announced the arrest of three suspects in connection with the murder of businesswoman, Madam Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, following an intensive investigation that combined forensic analysis, intelligence gathering, and technical tracking operations.
The breakthrough was disclosed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, during a press briefing held on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.
According to the police commissioner, the incident came to light on June 21, 2026, when a report was received at the Owode-Egba Police Station regarding suspicious circumstances at the residence of Madam Oyesiku. The report indicated that the front door of the residence had been partially damaged, while the security house within the compound was locked, prompting immediate police intervention.
Detectives were promptly deployed to the scene, where they discovered the lifeless body of Pelumi Adetayo, 38, inside the security house. Further examination of the premises led to the discovery of Madam Oyesiku's body lying in a pool of blood in the living room of the main building.
Investigators subsequently processed the crime scene and established that the deceased's Lexus RX 330 vehicle was missing from the compound, raising suspicions of robbery and murder.
The Command immediately launched a comprehensive investigation involving intelligence gathering, forensic examination, and technical tracking operations aimed at identifying the perpetrators and recovering the stolen vehicle.
The police recorded a major breakthrough on June 22, 2026, when operatives successfully traced and recovered the missing Lexus RX 330. Although the vehicle's ignition key had been removed and its registration number plates detached, detectives recovered the registration plate hidden beneath one of the seats. This enabled investigators to positively identify the vehicle as belonging to the deceased.
One of the critical pieces of evidence recovered from the crime scene was a handwritten note believed to have been left behind by the perpetrators. According to the police, forensic examination and analysis of the note generated valuable leads that significantly aided investigators in identifying those responsible for the killings.
The investigation eventually led detectives to 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, who was arrested on June 24, 2026, at a construction site in Ibara Government Reservation Area (GRA), Abeokuta, where he was reportedly working as a labourer.
Further follow-up operations resulted in the arrest of two additional suspects identified as Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, a security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, a bricklayer.
Police authorities described the arrests as a significant step in the investigation, noting that all identified suspects directly linked to the alleged criminal conspiracy are now in custody.
During interrogation, the principal suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, reportedly confessed to participating in the murder of Madam Oyesiku. He further informed investigators that he recruited the two other suspects to assist in carrying out the attack.
According to his statement, the motive for the crime stemmed from grievances he allegedly harboured against the deceased during a period when he had worked as a security guard in her employment.
Police said the suspect stated that the attack was intended to "teach her a lesson."
Investigators disclosed that the suspects allegedly carried out the attack on the afternoon of Saturday, June 20, 2026. According to the confessional statement, the suspects first overpowered the security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, and used him to gain access to the residence. Upon entering the house, they allegedly attacked Madam Oyesiku before later killing the security guard.
After the attack, the suspects reportedly fled with the deceased's Lexus RX 330, which was eventually recovered through intelligence-led operations in the Onikolobo area of Ogun State.
The police said the actions of the three suspects culminated in the deaths of both Madam Oyesiku and her security guard.
Following the confessional statements, detectives conducted further searches at locations connected to the suspects. During these operations, investigators recovered several items believed to be relevant to the case, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank, a black pen, and other exhibits.
While announcing the progress made in the investigation, CP Ojajuni emphasized that the suspects remain entitled to due process under the law despite their alleged confessions and the evidence recovered.
He stated that investigations are still ongoing to consolidate all available evidence and ensure a diligent prosecution of everyone connected with the crime.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the commitment of the Ogun State Police Command to securing justice for the victims and ensuring that all individuals found culpable are brought before the courts.
The case has attracted public attention across Ogun State, with residents awaiting the conclusion of the investigation and subsequent legal proceedings against the suspects.
