The Ogun State Police Command has strengthened security operations across affected communities in Ijebu-Ode following the environmental incident recorded along the Agoro/Okunowa Road axis, with Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, personally leading a follow-up assessment of the impacted areas.
The inspection, conducted on Saturday, involved visits to affected schools and communities, including Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, where authorities evaluated the situation and reassured residents of government intervention efforts.
CP Ojajuni, accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Muritala Bolanle, the Officer in Charge of the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, and other emergency response officials, ordered the immediate deployment of additional security personnel to the area.
The reinforcement includes Police EOD operatives, surveillance teams, tactical units, and members of the School Protection Squad, all aimed at tightening security around schools and vulnerable communities while ongoing monitoring and response operations continue.
The police commissioner’s visit was carried out in collaboration with top Ogun State government officials, including commissioners overseeing Education, Environment, and Health. During the sensitization exercise held with residents, teachers, parents, students, and community leaders, authorities emphasized the need for vigilance and compliance with emergency safety procedures.
Addressing participants, CP Ojajuni urged residents to remain calm and avoid panic, assuring them that the situation was under control. He stressed the importance of adhering strictly to official emergency protocols while security and health agencies continue investigations and coordinated response efforts.
“As law enforcement and emergency agencies intensify operations in the affected areas, residents must remain vigilant and cooperate fully with relevant authorities,” the police commissioner stated during the engagement.
The Ogun State Government also advised members of the public to immediately report any emergency linked to the incident through the state emergency call centre on 08112000033.
Residents were further advised to assist affected persons experiencing breathing difficulties by using wet clothes where necessary and ensuring victims are quickly taken to the nearest hospital for urgent medical attention.
The Ogun State Police Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, noting that surveillance and coordinated emergency operations remain active across the affected communities.
The latest intervention comes amid growing concern among residents and parents over the safety of students and communities within the affected axis, as authorities continue to assess the full impact of the incident and prevent further escalation.
