Pandemonium reportedly erupted at a Federal Medical Centre on Thursday, January 15, 2026, following a physical altercation between the Head of Department (HOD), Mrs. Abosede Fagoyinbo, and a subordinate, Nurse Odusola Oluwakemi, an incident that allegedly resulted in internal injuries to the latter.
According to eyewitness accounts, the confrontation occurred within the hospital premises during official hours, drawing the attention of staff and patients alike. An eyewitness alleged that Mrs. Fagoyinbo pushed Nurse Odusola during a heated exchange, causing her to sustain injuries to her side.
Speaking to Amebo Newspaper NG on condition of anonymity, another nurse described the HOD as domineering and accused her of repeatedly intimidating staff. The source further alleged that Mrs. Fagoyinbo had, in the past, compelled nurses to contribute money from their salaries for departmental New Year celebrations against their will.
“The HOD is a bully. She used to deduct money from nurses’ salaries for New Year parties without consent. It was only last year that staff insisted everyone should pay voluntarily, and those who didn’t were allegedly frustrated,” the nurse claimed.
When contacted by telephone, Nurse Odusola Oluwakemi confirmed that the incident occurred. She disclosed that she is currently recuperating at home on medical advice, stating that she remains weak following the alleged assault.
“I am still recovering at home because of the injuries I sustained during the attack last Thursday,” she said.
Efforts by Amebo Newspaper NG to reach Mrs. Abosede Fagoyinbo for her side of the story were unsuccessful, as repeated calls to her telephone line were unanswered at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, the management of the Federal Medical Centre has acknowledged the incident. The hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Orisajo, confirmed that an investigation is underway.
“The Hospital Management is aware of the incident and is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding it. Please be assured that we will keep you informed of any further developments,” he stated.
As investigations continue, stakeholders have called on hospital authorities to ensure a transparent inquiry and to safeguard the welfare and rights of staff, while maintaining a peaceful and professional work environment within the health facility.
