The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) has issued a statewide security advisory, warning residents to be vigilant following a resurgence of the notorious “one-chance” crime across the country.
The advisory, contained in a public safety statement signed by the State Commander of the Corps, Commander (Dr.) Soji Ganzallo, and released through the Director of Information and Public Relations, Assistant Commander Adegunwa Adegbuyi, described the trend as a serious and growing security concern.
Commander Ganzallo noted that recent incidents of one-chance crimes recorded nationwide have resulted in injuries, financial losses, and in some cases, loss of lives. He stressed that public awareness and personal vigilance remain the most effective tools in preventing residents from falling victim to the crime.
According to him, residents of Ogun State should avoid boarding unregistered, poorly identified, or suspicious vehicles, particularly along highways, isolated bus stops, and during odd hours. He advised commuters to make use of recognised transport terminals and verified ride services whenever possible.
The So-Safe Corps boss further cautioned against vehicles with tinted windows, unusually cheap fares, or drivers who insist on picking up multiple passengers without clear destinations. He urged residents to trust their instincts and decline any journey that feels unsafe or suspicious.
Commander Ganzallo also advised commuters to limit the use of mobile phones while travelling, avoid displaying valuables in public transport, and share trip details with trusted friends or family members before embarking on journeys.
In the event of a suspected one-chance situation, he urged victims to remain calm, avoid confrontation, and look for safe opportunities to alert nearby security operatives or members of the public. He encouraged residents to take note of landmarks, vehicle descriptions, and any distinguishing features of suspects whenever possible, as such information could aid investigations.
Reassuring the public, the State Commander disclosed that the So-Safe Corps has intensified patrols, surveillance, and intelligence gathering across major roads, transport corridors, and identified flashpoints within the state. He added that the Corps is working closely with sister security agencies to curb the menace and ensure the safety of residents.
Commander Ganzallo called on members of the public to promptly report suspicious movements or incidents to the nearest So-Safe Corps formation or other security agencies, stressing that timely and accurate information could prevent crime and save lives.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Ogun State So-Safe Corps to the protection of lives and property, urging residents to remain security-conscious, cooperative, and law-abiding at all times as collective responsibility remains key to effective crime prevention.
