A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State, Alhaji Yisa Ismaila Adebayo, popularly known as OMO-ADE, has commended Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, for the sustained reconstruction of the Lagos–Abeokuta Old Road, describing the project as a major boost to economic growth and commuters’ safety.
Alhaji Adebayo lauded the Governor’s commitment to infrastructure development, noting that the Lagos–Abeokuta Road is one of the most critical transport corridors linking Ogun State to Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital. According to him, the steady pace and visible quality of work on the road reflect the Abiodun administration’s resolve to deliver durable and people-oriented projects.
He observed that the Prince Dapo Abiodun–led administration has continued to record measurable progress on the road reconstruction, with intensified construction activities currently ongoing across key sections, including Itori, Papalanto, Ifo and other adjoining communities, as work steadily advances towards the Sango axis.
Findings indicate that at Ewekoro, rigid pavement construction is progressing on the left-hand side of the road, complemented by reinforced concrete drainage works in front of the Lafarge Cement factory. Similar rigid pavement works are also ongoing at GPC along the Ewekoro–Papalanto axis on the right-hand side, further strengthening the road’s structural integrity.
In Sango Ota, asphalt laying has reached advanced stages, with both binder and wearing courses successfully completed in front of the Matrix petrol station on the right-hand side. In addition, the wearing course has been laid on the outer lane at Obada Oko, significantly improving driving conditions for motorists.
Further along the corridor, grading and compaction of the sub-base course are actively underway around the Itori Police Station axis, while quality laterite is being spread on other sections of the Itori route. At Iyana Ilogbo, spreading and compaction of the sub-base course are also progressing steadily, signalling consistent momentum across the entire stretch of the project.
Alhaji Adebayo noted that the reconstruction of the Lagos–Abeokuta Road would not only ease traffic congestion and reduce travel time but also enhance road safety and stimulate socio-economic activities in communities along the corridor. He added that improved connectivity would boost trade, attract investment and improve the overall quality of life for residents.
He therefore urged residents and road users to continue to support the state government and exercise patience during the construction period, assuring them that the benefits of the project would far outweigh the temporary inconveniences.
The Lagos–Abeokuta Road reconstruction remains one of the flagship infrastructure projects of the Abiodun administration, reinforcing the government’s commitment to sustainable development, economic growth and the delivery of critical infrastructure across Ogun State.
