The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has unveiled an elaborate programme of events for its 33rd Convocation Ceremony, reaffirming its reputation as Africa’s leading university of agriculture and a hub of academic excellence, innovation and national development.
The week-long convocation activities, scheduled to hold from Friday, January 23 to Saturday, January 31, 2026, will feature a blend of religious, academic and ceremonial engagements, culminating in the award of degrees and prizes to graduating students.
In a statement released by the University, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olusola Babatunde Kehinde, on behalf of the Governing Council, Senate, Management, staff and students, formally invited stakeholders, alumni, parents, guardians and friends of the institution to participate in the historic celebration.
The programme will commence on Friday, January 23, 2026, with a Jumat Service at the University Mosque by 1:00 p.m. Activities will continue on Sunday, January 25, 2026, with an Interdenominational Thanksgiving Service at the Chapel of Grace, FUNAAB, scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
A Press Conference has been slated for Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at the Red Chamber, beginning at 10:00 a.m., where the University Management is expected to highlight key achievements, milestones and expectations surrounding the convocation.
On Friday, January 30, 2026, various completed projects across designated sites within the University will be commissioned at 10:00 a.m., underscoring FUNAAB’s commitment to infrastructural development and an improved learning environment. Later that same day, the Convocation Lecture will hold at the Red Chamber by 3:00 p.m.
The grand finale of the celebrations will take place on Saturday, January 31, 2026, with the Convocation Ceremony proper. The event, scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at the Professor Oluwafemi Balogun Ceremonial Building, will feature the award of First and Higher Degrees, Postgraduate Diplomas, as well as the presentation of prizes to outstanding graduates.
A major highlight of the 33rd Convocation is the lecture titled “Integrating Agriculture and Youth Development: A New Paradigm for the Nigerian Education System.” The lecture will be delivered by Mr. Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, CFR, Chairman of Access Holdings Plc, and one of Nigeria’s most respected business leaders and philanthropists.
Mr. Aig-Imoukhuede, who served as Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank Plc between 2002 and 2013, is widely credited with transforming the bank into a top-tier financial institution. Renowned for his contributions to corporate governance, economic reform and philanthropy, he is expected to bring valuable insights drawn from his vast experience in both the private and non-profit sectors.
According to the University, the lecture is anticipated to spark robust discussions on the intersection of agriculture, education and youth empowerment, and their collective role in driving sustainable development. This aligns with FUNAAB’s mission of producing globally competitive graduates equipped to foster innovation and socio-economic transformation in Nigeria and beyond.
The 33rd Convocation Ceremony is expected to attract dignitaries from government, academia, industry and the international community, further positioning FUNAAB as a centre of excellence with a growing influence on national and global development.
