The executive chairman of Sagamu Local Government, Ogbeni Jubril Odulate has strongly condemned what it described as “evil, insensitive and unpatriotic” attempts by some individuals to spread unfounded narratives following the unfortunate accident involving Nigerian heavyweight boxing legend, Anthony Joshua, and his friends during the end-of-year festivities.
Reacting to public speculations surrounding the incident, the Executive Chairman of Sagamu Local Government, Ogbeni Jubril Olasile Odulate, clarified that claims suggesting Ogun State has no functional ambulance services are false and misleading.
According to him, the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration has procured and strategically deployed ambulances across all 20 Local Government Areas of the state to enhance emergency response and healthcare delivery. Photographic evidence of these ambulances, he noted, clearly contradicts the assertions being circulated by what he described as “interlopers.”
Odulate explained that the involvement of Lagos State Ambulance Services during the rescue operation was purely a matter of proximity and operational efficiency, not the absence of emergency vehicles in Ogun State. He emphasized that both Lagos and Ogun states have, over the years, maintained a strong collaborative relationship in emergency response, particularly along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and other border towns and communities.
“The presence of Lagos ambulances was due to their closeness to the scene at the time of the accident,” he stated. “This is a testament to the long-standing synergy between the two states in ensuring the safety of road users.”
Expressing deep sympathy, the council chairman conveyed his thoughts and prayers to the victims of what he described as a “heart-wrenching accident.” He also commended members of the public who courageously offered immediate assistance to the victims before the arrival of government emergency agencies.
“The selfless and humane efforts of these citizens reflect the true Nigerian spirit of compassion and empathy,” Odulate said. “They stood up for their fellow human beings regardless of colour, race, tribe, gender or religion.”
He urged the public to refrain from politicizing tragic incidents and instead support efforts aimed at improving emergency response systems and saving lives.
The Ogun State Government, he added, remains committed to strengthening inter-agency collaboration and ensuring the safety and well-being of residents and visitors across the state.
