The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has unveiled a ₦717.4 million ultra-modern Social Sciences complex at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) — a landmark addition designed to boost teaching, research, and academic excellence.
The new facility, inaugurated on Tuesday by TETFund Board Chairman, Aminu Masari, at the university’s main campus, features four 200-seater lecture theatres, 22 en-suite offices, and 12 public conveniences. The project was executed under TETFund’s 2020/2021 merged annual intervention.
Masari, who lauded the university’s prudent management of funds, described NSUK as “a model of accountability and progress.”
“This institution has shown strong commitment to the judicious use of funds with visible and verifiable outcomes,” Masari said.
He disclosed that since becoming a TETFund beneficiary in 2003, NSUK has received over ₦12.7 billion in interventions, with 80% of the projects fully executed and in use across the campus.
Nationwide, he noted that TETFund achieved a 71% completion rate on infrastructure projects across beneficiary institutions between January and September 2025.
Masari also announced a temporary suspension of foreign training programs due to high exchange rates and instances of lecturers absconding abroad. The fund, he said, would instead focus on local capacity development, ICT expansion, and sustainable energy projects within Nigerian institutions.
Representing TETFund’s Executive Secretary, Sonny Echono, the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Babatunde Olajide, commended NSUK for its efficiency in completing projects despite inflationary pressures, urging the university to ensure proper maintenance of the new complex.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sa’adatu Liman, described the building as “a magnificent milestone” that will significantly enhance teaching and research outcomes at the Faculty of Social Sciences.
She proudly announced that NSUK ranked No. 1 in Nigeria for Quality Education (SDG 4) in the 2025 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, attributing the feat to TETFund’s unwavering support.
“This achievement underscores what effective partnerships can deliver. We remain committed to sustaining excellence,” Liman said, while appealing for further TETFund support in constructing more lecture halls, faculty buildings, and solar power installations.
Also speaking, Nasarawa State Commissioner for Education, John Mamman, commended TETFund for its continued contribution to the transformation of Nigeria’s tertiary education landscape.
