The Oduduwa Integrity Association, a socio-cultural group in Yorubaland, has condemned activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, over his repeated verbal attacks on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing his recent remarks as “abusive, culturally offensive, and unbecoming of a Yoruba man.”
In a statement made available to journalists, the association expressed displeasure over Sowore’s choice of words, particularly his description of the president as a “criminal.”
“Activism is not a license for you, Omoyele Sowore, to start calling your president a criminal,” the group declared. “Look at this word — criminal. How does it sound in your ears as an average Yoruba man? Your statement is baffling, paradoxical, and an affront to Yoruba cultural values.”
The association insisted that Sowore’s utterances violate the Yoruba code of Omoluabi, which emphasizes respect, moral rectitude, and responsible speech.
“Relieve yourself of this infantile frustration,” the group added. “Morally and culturally, you have crossed the line. By branding your president a criminal, you have gone beyond the boundary of Omoluabi in Yoruba tradition.”
Questioning Sowore’s record as an activist and politician, the Oduduwa Integrity Association said his repeated presidential contests without success were proof that the Nigerian people have rejected his style of leadership.
“You have contested twice, why didn’t you win? As an activist, how many less privileged persons have you assisted in your community or across Nigeria?” the group queried.
The statement went further, alleging that Sowore’s brand of activism is clouded by bitterness rather than service. “An activism does not change someone’s genetic trend,” the group remarked. “Let your poisoned blood flow back to your genetic trend for dialysis and come back home.”
Concluding, the Oduduwa Integrity Association urged Sowore to reflect on Yoruba values, which they said emphasize restraint, respect for elders, and constructive criticism rather than insults.
