In a commendable display of leadership and community engagement, Hon. (Dr.) Babatunde Oyetola Diya, the Executive Chairman of Odogbolu Local Government, hosted a peace meeting following a serious accident that occurred at the Sawmill Ala along Idowa Road on Sunday morning, August 3rd, 2025. This incident involved a truck and caused significant disruption, prompting a call for immediate dialogue and support.
The peace meeting took place at the Local Government Secretariat, where the Chairman brought together key stakeholders, including executive members of the Saw Millers’ Association from the Erinwe Chapter and the driver associated with the incident. During the meeting, Hon. Diya praised both parties for their mature and peaceful handling of the situation, which he noted could have escalated into further conflict.
To assist in the swift recovery and restoration of the damaged sawmill, Hon. Diya announced a financial support package of ₦1,000,000 from the Local Government. This generous gesture was met with appreciation from the Saw Millers’ Association, who recognized the administration's commitment to supporting local businesses and ensuring that they can bounce back from such setbacks.
While addressing the attendees, Hon. Diya also took the opportunity to stress the importance of road safety and the need for diligence among drivers. He cautioned against negligence, indicating that future avoidable accidents would result in stiffer penalties. “Our community’s safety is paramount, and we must take proactive measures to ensure that our roads are safe for everyone,” he stated.
In line with this commitment, the Chairman directed relevant governmental and transportation agencies to increase their oversight on both commercial and private vehicles, specifically focusing on the maintenance of critical vehicle systems such as brakes. “We must work together to prevent loss of lives and property due to accidents that can be avoided,” he emphasized.
