Abuja, Nigeria – August 6, 2025 The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) is currently addressing an incident that turned chaotic at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Tuesday morning, involving popular Nigerian musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, known widely as Kl De Ultimate, and an airline pilot from ValueJet Airlines.
The incident unfolded shortly before the scheduled departure of ValueJet Airlines' Flight VK 201 to Lagos. According to preliminary investigations, the singer attempted to bring an unidentified liquid substance aboard the aircraft, despite clear warnings from Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel and the flight captain regarding aviation regulations that prohibit liquids exceeding 100ml unless medically necessary and properly declared.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that while boarding was in progress, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal disregarded repeated instructions aimed at ensuring compliance with international aviation standards, specifically the Nigerian National Civil Aviation Security Programme (NCASP) and ICAO Annex 17. Reports indicate that when instructed to step aside for additional clarification regarding the substance, the artist refused and splashed the liquid on an airline security officer, which was later identified as alcohol.
In the midst of the unfolding situation, the Flight Captain attempted to intervene but was met with similar defiance. After verifying that all other passengers had boarded the aircraft, she made the decision to close the aircraft door, signaling the end of the boarding process.
Despite efforts to resolve the situation amicably, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal reportedly moved to the front of the aircraft and refused multiple requests to exit the area. Consequently, he was escorted away by the AVSEC crime unit for further questioning, although he was released shortly thereafter.
FAAN has made it clear that it is fully committed to maintaining the safety and security of all passengers, crew, and airport personnel. A spokesperson for the Authority emphasized the importance of compliance with aviation safety standards, declaring, “The Authority will not tolerate any actions that compromise operational integrity or undermine aviation safety standards, regardless of the individuals involved.”
This incident has sparked discussions about the enforcement of airport security regulations, particularly concerning high-profile individuals. FAAN has confirmed that a thorough investigation is ongoing, and any parties found culpable will face appropriate legal action.
As the situation develops, passengers and stakeholders are urged to remain patient and vigilant, maintaining adherence to all airport security protocols. Mrs. Obiageli Orah, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection for FAAN, reasserts the organization’s pledge to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and safety across all Nigerian airports.
The music community and fans await further updates as the investigation continues, reflective of the ongoing challenges in enforcing aviation regulations in an environment of celebrity influence and public scrutiny.
