Police in Anambra State have apprehended 65-year-old Akpan Godwin in Onitsha, where he was found with 1,100 rounds of live ammunition.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the state police command’s spokesperson, announced the arrest in a statement on Saturday, August 23.

He revealed that operatives from the Rapid Response Squad, based in Akwuzu, arrested Godwin on Friday at Nkpor, near Onitsha, following credible intelligence.

Ikenga stated that Godwin confessed during interrogation to engaging in the illegal sale of ammunition and implicated others involved in the illicit trade.

The police are now intensifying efforts to identify and apprehend his accomplices to dismantle the broader network supplying arms in the state.

Investigations are ongoing, with operatives stepping up their manhunt to bring all involved parties to justice.
