Abeokuta - In a bid to reinforce discipline and promote responsible conduct among its members, the Articulated Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN), Ogun State Chapter, convened an extended State Executive Meeting on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. The gathering, held at the union’s state secretariat in Abeokuta, drew participation from the State Executive Council and branch chairmen from across the state, emphasizing the importance of maintaining orderliness and safety standards within the motorcycle community.
The meeting's central theme revolved around enhancing professionalism and upholding the image of the union, which has faced challenges in recent years due to reports of misconduct among motorcycle operators. Delivering the keynote address, Otunba Taofeek Sokoya, the State Chairman of AMORAN, urged members to adopt the highest standards of discipline while fulfilling their roles. He expressed concern over the negative perception that reckless riding and unlawful behavior could create, stating, “As ambassadors of this union, we must conduct ourselves responsibly. Reckless riding, violence, and disregard for traffic laws will not be tolerated. Our collective image depends on how we represent AMORAN in public.”
Highlighting the union’s commitment to peace and stability within Ogun State, Chairman Sokoya commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for his administration’s impressive efforts in creating a secure and progressive environment for all. “We are grateful to His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his continuous support to our union,” Sokoya noted. “The relative peace we enjoy today is a result of good governance, and we must do our part to sustain it. Let us distance ourselves from any act that could disrupt the harmony in our state.”
The meeting also tackled the critical issue of regular training for riders on road safety and conflict resolution techniques. Branch chairmen were directed to ensure strict compliance with traffic regulations and to be vigilant in reporting any misconduct by members for appropriate disciplinary measures. The aim is to cultivate a culture of responsible motorcycle operations and compliance with local laws.
As part of its continuous efforts, AMORAN committed to collaborating with law enforcement agencies to combat illegal operations and foster a sound culture of responsibility among commercial motorcycle riders in Ogun State. The union recognizes the role of law enforcement in reinforcing safety within the transport sector, thus facilitating smooth interactions with regulatory bodies.
In reinforcing its mission, AMORAN reiterated its dedication to working closely with the Ogun State Government and various stakeholders to improve the efficiency of the transport sector while prioritizing the welfare of its members.
Through this renewed focus on discipline and orderliness, AMORAN aims to elevate standards for motorcycle operations across Nigeria, ensuring that its members not only contribute positively to their communities but also uphold the reputation of the motorcycle riding profession as a whole.
The extended state executive meeting concluded with a commitment from all members to embrace the collective responsibility of being role models within society—raising the bar for motorcycle operators nationwide.
