......Paramount Ruler Leaves Behind a Legacy of Development and Unity at Age 91


Ijebu-Ode, Nigeria – The Anikinaiya Ruling House of Ijebuland is in mourning following the passing of His Royal Majesty Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Olukayode Adetona, GCON, Ogbagba II, the beloved Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland. The revered monarch transitioned to eternal rest at the age of 91, leaving behind a profound legacy marked by significant development and progress throughout Ijebuland.


Oba Adetona ascended the throne in 1960 and reigned with dignity, wisdom, and commitment, guiding the people of Ijebuland through times of change and growth. Under his leadership, Ijebuland witnessed remarkable advancements in infrastructure, education, and cultural preservation. His reign was characterized by efforts to promote unity and development within the community, and he was deeply committed to the welfare of his subjects.


In a statement released by Omoba (Tpl) Hamzat Tommy, Secretary of the Anikinaiya Ruling House, and Omoba Toheeb Mabadeje Alaga (Adeleke Ogbagba) Olori Ebi,  the family extended their heartfelt condolences to his wives, children, and all descendants. They offered prayers for the eternal rest of the departed monarch, recognizing his contributions to the cultural and spiritual life of the people. The statement also expressed solidarity with other Ruling Houses of the Awujale, the Olisa of Ijebu-Ode, the Council of Ijebuland Chiefs, and the entire Ijebuland community during this period of grief.


"Orisa Ijebu a gbe dede Eni o. Ase," said Omoba Tommy, emphasizing the great spiritual connection and impact that the late Oba had on the people of Ijebuland.


The announcement of his passing has sparked an outpouring of remembrance and admiration from community members, leaders, and individuals who were touched by his leadership. Many shared stories of Oba Adetona’s fairness, generosity, and vision for Ijebuland, which transformed the area into a vibrant and progressive community.
