Legendary Musician Mike Ejeagha Passes Away at 95


Renowned Highlife legend, Mike Ejeagha, has passed away at the age of 95. Ejeagha, known for transforming Igbo folklore and proverbs into captivating music, died on Friday night, June 6, 2025, at the 32 Garrison Hospital in Enugu, following a prolonged illness.


Ejeagha was a dominant voice on Nigerian airwaves in the 1980s with his unique style of Igbo folk music that resonated across generations.


In July 2024, Ejeagha became an internet sensation after content creator Brain Jotter used his song "Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo" for a dance challenge, introducing his music to a new generation.


Ejeagha's music brought renewed attention to Nigerian folklore and Igbo culture, showcasing the richness and diversity of the region's heritage.


In September 2024, Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah visited Ejeagha, renamed the street leading to his house after him, and pledged to take full responsibility for all his bills.
