15-year Wait for British Passport: Badenoch's Immigration Proposal Sparks Debate

Kemi Badenoch, the UK Conservative Party leader, has proposed a new law that would require immigrants to wait 15 years before becoming eligible for British citizenship.

Here's a breakdown of the proposal :

- Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR): The waiting period for ILR would increase from 5 years to 10 years.

- British Citizenship: After obtaining ILR, immigrants would have to wait an additional 5 years before applying for British citizenship, totaling 15 years.

- Stricter Rules: The proposal also includes stricter rules, such as:

  - Net Contributor Requirement: Immigrants would need to have a high enough salary, especially if they want to bring family members with them.

-Criminal Record Ban: Individuals with criminal records would be permanently barred from settling in the UK.

-No Benefits: Claiming benefits or relying on social housing could also lead to a permanent ban.

-Illegal Entry Ban: Those who enter the country illegally or overstay their visa would be banned from ever getting leave to remain or a passport.

The proposal aims to reduce immigration and make living in the UK more meaningful.

However, some critics argue that the proposal is unfair, given that many immigrants arrived in the UK under previous Conservative government.
