Governor Alex Otti of Abia State on Monday signed 18 Executive Bills into law, bringing the total number of Executive Bills signed since his administration began two years ago to 30.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Governor Otti described the new laws as strategic tools for implementing his administration’s vision in key areas such as performance-based governance, accountability, and effective public service delivery.
He noted that the laws are based on community and neighborhood development needs identified in his manifesto and the 2023 transition committee report.
“These laws encapsulate thoughtful legislative provisions that support our vision for a better Abia,” Otti said. “Whether it is infrastructure management, development planning, or improving the effectiveness of government agencies, we are seeing tangible change in our urban and semi-urban centers.”
The Governor commended the Abia State House of Assembly for its support, highlighting the importance of legislative backing in achieving the administration’s goals efficiently and sustainably.
Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, who presented the bills for assent, described them as “abstract but impactful,” noting that some were amendments to existing laws.
He emphasized that the effects of the legislation would be felt in the everyday lives of Abia residents.
Other lawmakers, including Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Austin Okezie Meregini, Majority Leader Uchenna Kalu Okoro, and Hon. Godwin Adiele, praised Governor Otti’s leadership and reaffirmed the Legislature’s commitment to supporting good governance.
Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Ikechukwu Uwanna, stated that the 30 Executive Bills passed under Governor Otti are policy-driven and aligned with the administration’s commitment to transparency and development.
Among the newly signed laws are:
- Abia State Senior Citizens Law 2025
- Abia State Road Maintenance Agency (Repeal) Law 2025
- Abia State Estate Development Agency (Repeal) Law 2025
- Abia State Orientation Agency (Amendment) Law 2025
The signing ceremony was attended by members of the Abia State Executive Council and the State House of Assembly.
