Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has confirmed that President Bola Tinubu is prioritizing water supply projects for Abuja’s satellite towns.
Wike made the remarks after inspecting ongoing projects in Abuja and addressing questions about his recent visit to China, where he finalized arrangements with the China Geo-Engineering Corporation Overseas Construction Group (CGCOC).
The FCT Administration has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with CGCOC for water provision in satellite towns, and Wike described the China trip as a follow-up to this agreement. He recalled that the Tinubu administration had promised to deliver the Abuja City Water Supply, with part of the project to be completed along Airport Road in the second year.
Moreover, Tinubu has directed that satellite towns such as Bwari, Karu, and parts of Kubwa receive clean water. Wike said, “This is a critical project for Mr President. Funding has been included in the National Budget, which has been passed, and also in the Statutory Budget before the National Assembly.”
The procurement process is ongoing, and CGCOC, which is executing the Greater Abuja Water Supply, will implement the satellite towns project.
Wike praised Tinubu for supporting the FCT administration in delivering impactful projects across roads, health, and education. He revealed that 85 percent of the FCT Statutory Budget will be dedicated to completing ongoing projects, with education receiving about N140 billion for capital projects.
He stressed the administration’s commitment to completing abandoned projects for public benefit. “Our intention is not to award new projects but to complete the existing ones,” Wike said.
