Red Cross, EU Provide Relief To Anambra Flood Victims

The Nigerian Red Cross Society, Anambra State branch, in partnership with the European Union, has distributed relief materials to communities affected by the devastating 2024 floods in Anambra State. The distribution took place from April 17 to 19, focusing on vulnerable populations in Ogbaru, Anambra West, and Ayamelum Local Government Areas.

Kingsley Okoye, Branch Secretary of the Nigerian Red Cross, stated, “This initiative was generously sponsored by the European Union and focused on delivering dignity kits to individuals and families most impacted by the flood.” The relief materials included dignity kits and essential hygiene items aimed at restoring dignity and improving hygiene and comfort for the victims.

The exercise was conducted by Red Cross officials, programme officers, and volunteers, reaching hundreds of beneficiaries. Okoye emphasized that the kits were tailored especially for women and girls, addressing their specific needs. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude, describing the aid as timely and impactful.

Okoye added, “The initiative not only addresses immediate hygiene needs but also reinforces our commitment to stand with affected communities during emergencies.” The Nigerian Red Cross Society thanked the European Union for its support and called for continued collaboration to sustain such humanitarian efforts.
