Gbolahan Ojolo, a 100-level Business Administration student at the University of Ilesa, Osun State, was electrocuted on Friday evening after a lightning strike reportedly caused an electric surge while he was charging his phone and playing a game in his hostel.
The university registrar, Funso Ojo, confirmed the incident and said the police have been informed and are conducting an investigation. The student’s remains were moved to Wesley Guild Hospital morgue after police clearance.
In a statement, the university expressed profound sadness, noting, “The University of Ilesa has made necessary arrangements to support the family during this moment of intense grief.” The community continues to pray for the deceased and his loved ones.
