As Christians in Nigeria join the global community in celebrating Easter 2025, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed a nationwide security boost to ensure a safe and peaceful holiday period.
In a statement released on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police chief extended Easter greetings to Christian faithful and encouraged reflection on the season’s core values — hope, renewal, and sacrifice.
To bolster public safety, Egbetokun instructed all State Commissioners of Police and their supervising Assistant Inspectors-General to strengthen visibility patrols, enhance intelligence gathering, and ramp up surveillance activities across their jurisdictions. He also emphasized the need for strategic deployment of officers to key locations including places of worship, recreational venues, major roads, and other public areas likely to witness increased activity during the festivities.
“The Inspector-General has directed all police commands and formations to intensify efforts in ensuring a secure environment for Easter celebrations,” the statement noted. “He emphasized proactive patrols and swift response mechanisms to deter criminal elements and manage any emerging security concerns.”
The IGP also appealed to the public for cooperation, urging citizens to share credible and timely information that could help prevent any disruptions to peace. He reminded Nigerians to remain alert, celebrate responsibly, and exercise caution—particularly on the roads, where he warned against reckless driving.
Egbetokun reassured the public of the police’s readiness to respond to any security issues, encouraging everyone to embrace the spirit of the season while prioritizing safety and moderation.
