The Lagos State Police Command has stepped up security for Easter by deploying a large number of officers and tactical units statewide. Commissioner Olohundare Jimoh directed the immediate deployment of conventional police and elite units such as the Police Mobile Force, Rapid Response Squad, Counter-Terrorism Unit, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal squad.
“All strategic locations across Lagos including black spots and flash points” are being secured to prevent crime and ensure a peaceful Easter. Churches, celebration venues, and other public spaces expecting large crowds will receive special policing, which “are going to be properly policed.”
The command is providing officers with armored personnel carriers and patrol vehicles to support their operations. This move is part of a broader effort to “nip in the bud any other security breaches” and maintain order before, during, and after the festivities. Jimoh emphasized cooperation with other security agencies.
He instructed officers to be “courteous, polite, professional but firm” and urged the public to cooperate and report suspicious activities. Parents were also advised to caution their children.
