Former federal lawmaker Shehu Sani has erupted in outrage over the National Population Commission’s (NPC) request for a staggering N942 billion to conduct the national census in 2025.
Calling the proposal “total madness,” Sani expressed disbelief at the absurdity of such an astronomical sum for merely counting Nigerians.
The NPC’s request for nearly a trillion naira was reportedly rejected by President Bola Tinubu, who chose to employ National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members for the task instead.
Sani, in a post on X, fiercely backed Tinubu’s decision, declaring, “The rejection of their budget is commendable.”
He criticized the NPC’s financial demand, emphasizing that such an excessive budget was unjustifiable for a process as fundamental as counting the nation’s population.
