Labour Party Faces Setback As 10,000 Members Join ADC In Kaduna

In Kaduna State, no fewer than 10,000 members of the Labour Party (LP) have defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Leading the mass defection was Alexander Igoji Adanu, a former Finance Director to the late Hon. Ekene Abubakar Adams, who represented Kaduna South in the House of Representatives.

The event was marked by a colorful ceremony in Kaduna.

Igoji, who had also aspired to succeed the late Ekene in the House of Representatives, cited the ongoing leadership crisis in the Labour Party as a key reason for their departure.

He emphasized their desire to continue the legacy of the late Ekene, stating, “We are joining the ADC because of its commitment to women and youth empowerment and the numerous programs that directly benefit the youth.”

According to him, the internal crisis within the LP left them with no alternative but to seek refuge in the ADC, a party where peace and development are assured.

“LP has been entangled in multiple court cases over leadership tussles, leading to a decline in party activities. We want a new party that prioritizes youth development. ADC is deeply invested in youth empowerment. Our decision to join ADC reflects our shared vision for a better Nigeria, where transparency, accountability, and good governance reign supreme.”

“Our vision is to empower women and youth and promote human capital development in the Chikun/Kajuru federal constituency. Ekene laid the foundation, and as a team, we are committed to ensuring that his work continues.”

“As we embark on this new journey together, let us remember that our collective goal is to build a Nigeria that serves all its citizens—a nation where everyone has access to quality education, healthcare, and economic opportunities,” he added.

The Chairman of ADC in Kaduna State, Hon. Ahmed Tijjani Mustapha, hailed the decision of the defectors, describing it as a strong indication that the ADC is poised to take over Kaduna and Nigeria in 2027.

He noted that across the country, from Kaduna to Abuja and Port Harcourt, more people were aligning with the ADC in anticipation of the 2027 general election.

“Your presence here today marks a significant milestone in our journey toward creating positive democratic change in our great state and our dear nation,” he stated.

Hon. Alexander Igoji Adanu, who has secured the ADC ticket for the 2025 by-election in the Chikun/Kajuru constituency for the House of Representatives, was officially presented with the party’s flag and other insignia by Hon. Tijjani Mustapha, assisted by National Officers of the party.

The Women Leader of LP, Dorothy Tankura, along with other LP chieftains who defected to ADC, spoke highly of their new party and expressed their commitment to working for ADC’s success in the 2027 elections.
