One of the most harrowing incidents occurred as she attempted to leave Nigeria, underscoring the hostility she faces as a transgender woman and LGBTQ+ individual in a conservative society.
Legal Troubles & Targeted Arrests In March 2024, Bobrisky won "Best Dressed Female," causing outrage. A viral video of her spraying naira led to her arrest and a harsh six-month prison sentence. After her release, she faced further arrests by immigration authorities and a failed lawsuit against the EFCC for human rights violations.Harassment & Seeking Asylum In December 2024, Bobrisky was forcibly removed from a UK-bound flight by EFCC agents, sparking outrage. Reports suggest she later sought asylum in Holland for safety.

She was murdered in August 2024, likely due to her sexual orientation, highlighting the dangers LGBTQ+ individuals face in Nigeria. Additionally, On March 7, 2021, a gathering at the Residency Hotel in Dunukofia, Anambra State, which was organized as an LGBTQ+ social event, was violently interrupted by the Nigerian police. The event, meant to be a safe space for members of the LGBTQ+ community to connect, network, and express themselves freely, quickly turned into a scene of chaos when police officers raided the venue.
According to reports, the police stormed the hotel and detained several attendees, accusing them of violating Nigeria's anti-same-sex laws. While the event was intended to be a private, peaceful gathering, the raid reflected the harsh reality faced by LGBTQ+ Nigerians, where even social events for the community are targeted by authorities.
During the raid, five individuals managed to escape arrest and have been on the run ever since, fearing for their safety and the possibility of being persecuted.
