Ogun state government has cleared the hospital bill of the reporter, Soliu Owoyabu beaten by some members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Abeokuta South local government chapter.

According to Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji,SWAN SECRETARY, Soliu was attacked on Sunday by the irate APC members for displaying pitch panels of one of the sponsors of the ongoing SWAN/Security and Safety Cup at the MKO Abiola stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta.

Trouble started when one of the journalists, Segun Folarin of Radio Nigeria in preparation for the Semi-final match between NSCDC and Nigeria Police of the SWAN/Security cup organized by Ogun State chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) was placing the pitch panels produced for the branding of the stadium.

The pitch panels, which form part of the sponsor's insignia at the ongoing SWAN/Security Cup were later destroyed by the hoodlums.

Sighting one of the sponsor's panels with the inscription LADO GROUP, the irate APC mob pounced on the Radio Nigeria correspondent.

While the show of shame was ongoing, another journalist, Soliu Owoyabu was filming the incident.

The APC members shifted attention and pounced on Owoyabu beating him to a stupor.

But the State government on Friday through the Senior Consultant to Ogun State Governor, Chief Kayode Akinmade visited the victim at the hospital and paid for all medical expenses.

The government, therefore, appealed to the sports writers and entire journalists in the state to take what happened in good fate.

It said the incident should be seen as one of the hazards of the journalism profession.
