The police in Kwara State have arrested two women alleged to be receivers of stolen goods and three male burglars in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

The two women were identified as Fatima Shuaibu and Olajumoke Yusuf, while their male accomplices were identified as Ayo Rasaki, Iliyasu Rasaki and Jimoh Moshood.

The police said the male suspects burgled shops in Fate and Stadium Road areas in Ilorin, while the two women were caught with the stolen goods.

Stolen items recovered from the suspects, according to the police, included two deep freezers, four generators, six pairs of shoes, 90 pairs of Ankara materials, one Bajaj motorcycle and one sewing machine.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Ajayi Okasanmi, said, “Following several reports of burglary in the state, the Commissioner of Police, Tuesday Assayomo, gave a marching order to the divisional police officers of the affected areas to stem the emerging trend and ensure that all perpetrators of the criminal acts were arrested.

“Consequent upon the CP’s order, the DPOs swung into action and the arrested suspects have all confessed to the crime.

“Investigation into the crime is ongoing and efforts to arrest other members of the syndicate and possible recovery of already sold stolen items are in progress.”

The PPRO said the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigation was concluded.
