Best Teacher Awards In Ogun: Winners Are Yet To Recieve Cheque, Apartment Promised By State Government Since 2020

ABEOKUTA— The winners of Best Teachers in Ogun State in year 2020, Mrs Akinbiyi Mary Adeyemi of St Paul's school ll Makun Sagamu, Mr Adewale Kayode Abayomi from Odua Comprehensive High School Imoru, Ijebu Ode and Mr Odeogbola Ayodele from Abeokuta Grammar School are yet to receive their cheque after presentation in the face of the media since year 2020. 

According to Amebo Newspaper NG reporter who approached the winners to know how happy they were to receive cheque and houses among their colleagues, Investigation revealed that the above named winners were only packaged with media while the promises made to them has not been fulfilled till the time of filing our reports.

It could be recalled that Gov. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, on Monday, October 5, 2020 announced the donation of a two-bedroom bungalow to Mr Odegbola Ayodele, a Junior Secondary School (JSS) teacher in Abeokuta Grammar School.

The house, located at the state-owned Princes Court, Abeokuta, was given to Ayodele for emerging as the overall best teacher in the state.

Abiodun announced this while addressing executive members of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Academic Staff Union Secondary Schools (ASUSS), and the All-Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), in Abeokuta.

Reports has it that the meeting, held at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, was part of activities marking this year’s World Teachers Day.

Aside Ayodele, Mr Adewale Abayomi from Odua Comprehensive High School, Imoru, Ijebu-Ode, who was the best teacher in the senior secondary school category, was given the sum of N2.5 million by the governor.

Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun also gave Mrs Mary Adeyemi from St. Paul’s School II, Sagamu, who emerged as the best primary school teacher, the sum of N2 million.

The beneficiaries are yet to receive neither the house not the cash gift promised by Ogun state government during last year October 5, 2020 World Teacher's Day celebration.


When our correspondent contacted the Commissioner of Education, Prof Abayomi Arigbabu FMAN through phone calls he responded with a text message that he was busy and we sent a text message across to notify him of the allegations and get the government reaction towards the incident but we couldn't get any response as at the time of filing our reports.
