Stakeholders in the education sector have been urged to propagate the importance of deworming of school age children to parents and guardians in Ogun State.

This admonition was given by the Coordinator, Neglected Tropical Diseases ( NTDs) of the Ogun State Ministry of Health, Dr.  Islamiyat Soneye, at a  sensitisation meeting held in Abeokuta for heads of primary and secondary schools, union leaders and zonal education officers, ahead of the forthcoming school-based deworming exercise in the state.

Dr. Soneye, who said that deworming promotes healthy living and sound memory of the young ones, adding that it makes the impact of food intake evident in the children since unwanted worms have been evacuated.

She said that a dewormed child will not have cause to be sick, hence, the kid will not have to be absent from school.

According to her, the treatment for worms is usually very simple, effective, safe and always free but the consequences of not deworming are very grave.

The NTDs Coordinator called on the schools heads and union leaders to join in the campaign on the benefits of deworming to encourage parents to release their wards for the exercise.

Speaking on behalf of the stakeholders, the Head Teacher, OLG Primary School,  Obantoko,  Alhaji Olayinka Sikirulai, thanked the state government for the sensitisation opportunity, assuring that the school heads will give one percent support for the exercise.

The school-based deworming exercise is scheduled for November 12 to 18, 2020 in the state.
