Akeem Akilo, publicity secretary to one of the foremost age-groups in Ijebuland, Obayori Okunrin “Kuye” has made declaration that the proposed Ijebu economy summit is still on course, but affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Comrade Akilo revealed this during interactive session with journalists in Abeokuta on Tuesday lamented on the situation of the plan affected by the coronavirus epidemic.

In shelding some notable plans by the group, Akilo stressed further that the proposed one day event is the economic development plan for Ijebuland; saying, it carries out through an economy summit which has planned to show in-depth coverage of the economy and infrastructural potent of Ijebu-nation to showcase its potentials to the stakeholders.
According to him, “The Egbe has since last year planned to hold an economy submit with the theme; Ijebu Entrepreneurship which will serve as her 2020 community social responsibility but was abruptly delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The summit will dissect and recommend strategies which will drive meaningful youth employment, enhance security strategies, industrialization, activate and boost tourism potential of Ijebuland.

Adding that the plan will convene key leaders who are of Ijebu extraction from government, the private sector and academia to provide a broad overview, further in-depth analysis of the economy status and how it will be achievable.

“We want to use the opportunity to drive home our potential sons and daughters that are flourishing at home and in diaspora, the proposed summit was earlier scheduled for April this year, and to be chaired by an industrialist, a prominent son of Ijebu. But we need to delay the program for now due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We’re very much on course.

“As younger generations, we must reason and think outside the box. We need to think differently and unconventionally from a new perspective, though, there will always room for pleasures and socializing. Because in these type of socializing interactions, we learn the norms, customs, values, and roles of our native.

“Our fathers and mothers in regberegbe has achieved alot. They’ve handed down for us an attribute and practice which will remains an indelible mark imprinted on the soul that cannot be blotted out.

“We are duty-bound as younger ones and new generation, to consolidate on these imprints so as to improve the socio-economic and infrastructures development of our land, the Ijebu nation. 

Comrade Akilo recalled that, the Egbe was recently awarded with an award of “OGUN STATE ICON OF HUMANITY” by Flashlight Entertainment. The event which came up on Friday July, 10th 2020, with the titled, “Ogun State Icon of Humanity Award 2020” was presented by Mr. Don Wollexy, the Chairman Flashlight Entertainment appreciating the support of Egbe Obayori Okunrin Akile Ijebu “Kuye” to the vulnerable during the hottest stage of COVID-19 in Ogun State.

The Egbe, during the early/hottest days of the pandemic, following the total lockdown of Ogun State by the federal government as the major exercise to curb the spread of epidemic coronavirus in the State, Egbe Obayori Okunrin Akile Ijebu “Kuye” had donated relief materials to 1000 residents of the state within Ijebu-Ode metropolis.

The donation of the relief materials which was part of the Egbe’s corporate social responsibilities to help the needy to combat the hardship of Covid-19 disease in the land was widely applauded by the Regberegbe-In-Council, Awujale’s Palace and other stakeholders in Ijebuland.

The Chairman of Flashlight Entertainment and the organizer of the awards, Mr. Don Wollexy lauded the disposition of the group to developmental initiatives in Ijebuland under the leadership of Giwa Alhaji Suraju Lasisi.

Giwa Lasisi in his response thanked the Organizer of the ceremony , promised on behalf of Egbe Obayori, to be more proactive towards the development of Ijebu nation in the comity of Regberegbe in Ijebuland.

The awardees includes; Egbe Obayori Okunrin Akile Ijebu “Kuye”, Egbe Bobakeye Okunrin Akile Ijebu, Egbe Jagunmolu Obirin (Original) Akile Ijebu, Regberegbe Obirin Akile Ijebu (1983–1985), Regberegbe Okunrin Akile Ijebu (1983–1985) among others.

The special guest of honour, the wife of the Akejewe Okunrin, Assistant Commandant General Kufuli Okusesan Rasaki of the NSCDC, Alhaja Serifat Rasaki was also present at the occasion among other dignitaries.
