A CASE OF ASSAULT AT ITOLU COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL, ILARO.

The drama began at early hours of Tuesday 14th May, 2024. When an SSS 1 student named Tosin Sowemimo of the School and an officer of So Safe Cops attached to the School began to fight after the student refused a law order given  to him by the So Safe officer. As he could not overpower the officer, he ran out of the school.


However,after a while the boy returned back to the school with his mother, his sister and a gang of thug. On arrival, the boy's mother known as Mrs Sowemimo attacked the So Safe officer, She beat him mercilessly to the extent of tearing his uniform into pieces.


In an attempt to stop this show of shame, Mr Abodunrin , an English Language teacher in the school intervene, but unfortunately he was also attacked by the hoodlums that accompanied Mrs Sowemimo and her children, the unbearable noise called the attention of the nearby teachers, but as much as they tried to arrest the situation the thugs faced everyone, chasing them around with Stone and planks.


Other teachers that were attacked during the incident were Mr Aretola who was beating blue black by Mrs Sowemimo and her thugs, they also beat Mrs Adewole Evelyn and tore her clothes, while Mr Akinfenwa, a Fine Art teacher in the school was also beaten by the hoodlums.


In view of this, a call was put through to the Zonal Education Officer in the Local.Government and the Zonal Secretary, Teaching Service Commission, Yewa South, who acted prompt by sending their staff to the school premise with immediate effect, after which the ZEO joined the team.


At the same time,the Police was also invited, but before the Police could come, they had elope. But as the Lord Will have it, while the Police was still on ground,  another child of Mrs Sowemimo who happens to be Tosin Sowemimo's brother, who had about what happened arrived the scene and that was how he was arrested by the Police, Immediately the mother heard the news of her son's arrest, she went straight to the station in order to lodge a complaint, she was arrested right there, and was asked to summon the boy to the station for interrogation. 


At this juncture, the boy , his brother and his mother Mrs Sowemimo a food vendor at Orita area in Ilaro were arrested, while the thugs had run for a cover.

Everyone concerned with the case were asked to make statements for further action, meanwhile, Zonal Education Officer had briefed the state Honourable Commissioner for Education about the incident, who had given directives to charge the case to court for a legal prosecution.

On Wednesday 15th May, 2024, the culprits (a mother and two children) were already in the magistrate court Ilaro where the case was adjourned to 26th of June, 2024, They were given an option of fine of #500,000 (five hundred thousand naira) each with two surety in fulfillment of bail condition or else they should remain in police custody till June 26th, 2024.
