The Nigerian police officers in the Enugu state command have been alleged to have brutalized Mss Ibangha Goodness, a lawyer to set an alleged rapist free, gistmania reports.

The lady who works in an NGO based Enugu was handling a rape case before she was brutalized by the police on the 30th day of January.

The officers from Abakpa Police Area Command allegedly invaded her office and assaulted her, while she was reported to have collapsed as a result of the assault.

Goodness recounted how Mr. Okinla Shieye, an Area Commander of Abakpa Police Station, called her and demanded she provides the rape survivor.

A demand Goodness fulfilled and produced the rape survival before the police station as demanded.

Desperate to cover up the rape case, three police officers trailed her to her office where they assaulted her together with her colleagues who attempted to save her from the police torture and brutality.

The officers pulled her cloth while revealing her underwear almost leaving her half naked before forcefully taken her to their office where the torture continued.

At the station, Goodness was tortured and called prostitutes, and, when the father of the accused was invited to the police station, he joined the police, called Goodness a prostitute and threatened to cease her certificate as a legal practitioner.

The police accused Goodness of trying to destroy the accused father’s political career by coming up with a rape allegation against the son.

When the lawyer handling the rape case wanted water to drink after the police torture, the officers refused her from drinking water and reminded her she isn’t the first lawyer to die in police detention.

She eventually collapsed and was taken to the hospital where a team of Doctors and Nurses worked hard to revive her from dying.

Mr. Markus Basiran, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, in charge of police Complaint Response Unit, reacting to the development, said the police has commenced an investigation into the matter.
