There was outrage in Niger state as the 25 council chairmen all flew out to ghana for a retreat.
The retreat is billed to hold for one week.
Council staff and the state residents have frowned at such a move also citing the last incident where the chairman had to travel out to Kaduna state for 2 days for a retreat just after their inauguration.
They wondered why the chairmen left them without paying salaries and wondered how their travel would benefit them
They wondered why the program had to be taken out to ghana and why it wasn't held there in the state.
The NATION reported that out of the 25 LGA council chairmen who traveled, 13 have not been able to pay staff salaries for the month of February.
The local government councils implicated in nonpayment of salaries as reported include: Bida, Suleja, Mokwa, Paikoro, Lavun, Kontagora, Lapai, Shiroro, Agaie, Chanchaga, paikoro, Rijau, Tafa and Rijau,
According to the house member representing Suleja constituency, the team was joined by the commissioner for environment on a fact-finding mission on the waste management process in ghana as the state claimed to have a business deal with some waste management companies there.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Niger State Governor, Mrs. Mary Noel Berje also confirmed the visit of the chairmen but corrected it was not for a retreat.
She argued that the chairmen went to Ghana to further solidify the Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello’s earlier visit to a waste recycling company to learn the process of effective waste management in the state.
According to the press secretary, the trip was to teach the LGA chairmen a new approach of keeping a clean state
