Ogun: Farmers’ Association Honours Agric Commissioner, Consultant, Permanent Secretary

Abeokuta - Members of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Ogun State Chapter has presented awards of Excellence to the Ogun State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Adeola Odedina at the Conference Room of his Ministry in Abeokuta.

The women and Youth wing of the Association also presented awards to the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Dotun Shorunke and the Consultant to the Governor on Agriculture, Dr. (Mrs) Angel Adelaja-Kuye respectively.
Presenting the awards, the Women Leader of the Association, Mrs Fausat Oyekunle said the award presentation was borne out of the trio’s zeal and determination to involve all categories of farmers in making Governor Dapo Abiodun’s vision of revamping the agricultural sector in the State all inclusive.
She called for more synergy with the Ministry and farmers, especially women in the areas of accessibility to loan with little interest rate, marketing, farmland, processing, training in modern trends in agricultural value-chain among others.
Also speaking, the Youth Leader of the Association Mr. Olorunsola Osasona called for involvement of agric teachers in secondary schools in the scheme of things so that they can inculcate same to the students whom they are expected to train.

Responding, the Honourable Commissioner, Dr. Adeola Odedina thanked the AFAN for the honour reposed on them for the awards, saying “your commitment to agriculture is what drives us to achieve our aim”, assuring them of the present administration’s readiness to reduce unemployment and poverty through agricultural innovations and promotions.

The Commissioner maintained that without agriculture, there will be scarcity of food and raw materials, which will also affect the nation’s foreign exchange, disclosing that some of the farmers would be trained in modern farming strategies so they can produce food and nutrition that will benefit to the body.

The Commissioner expressed optimism that if the vision of the government is driven and well monitored, many unemployment youths will become meaningfully engaged while entrepreneurs will also realize huge profit that will culminate into good testimony of the present administration.
