The Nigeria police have taken into their custody two community leaders of Ifite Ogwari town in Anyamelum local government area of Anambra state.

The Police detained Chief Nwaora Ikeoala who is the Deputy President General of the town and the chief security officer, Chief Michael Akamala at the Anambra state police headquarters Awka.

Their detention is based on the reports of the alleged killing of 3 herdsmen and their cows after it was also alleged that the herdsmen led their cattle to destroy large farmlands.

According to the Deputy President General for Ifite Ogwari

“We were in a meeting to access the damage done on our farms by the herdsmen"

He said the Divisional Police Officer of their area sent for them to come, they honoured the invitation and since then the ordinary call turned to arrest without charge.

But people in the community are living in fear and confusion not knowing the situation of their leaders.

Even the lawyer of Ifite Ogwari town, Mr. Michael Chukwuemeka, has been denied proper access to his clients and the Deputy President General is sick and needs medical attention.

The leaders of Igbo Mandate Congress claims that some top government officials told them that Governor Obiano have tried to the get the commissioner of police to release the elderly men but he declined saying that unless he gets order from Abuja.
