The governor of Ogun State, Dr Prince Dapo Abiodun has called on residents of the state to maintain calmness as the report of the coronavirus patient was detected in Ewekoro local government.
He confirmed that 28 people suspected to be in contact with the Italian consultant who was the carrier has been isolated at the biosecurity centers for proper screening.
"The coronavirus outbreak was detected through a 44 year old Italian who was said to be a consultant of Lafarge Cement but citizen of Italy, he returned to Nigeria on Monday 24th of February through Turkish airline where he spent his night in Lagos State after the company driver picked him up for the hotel..... After getting back to work in Ewekoro he had a high in temperature which lead him to the clinic"
" We assure the people of Ogun State to remain calm as our government is making all efforts to put a stop to the deadly virus spreads, 2 Biosecurity center has been setup in Lafarge cement company and OOUTH with the assistance of the minister of health has been equipped with reagents and facilities to tackle corona virus."
"Health facilities such as hand gloves, nose cover and other health facilities has been distributed across to all health centres in Ogun State." Said Governor Abiodun
He said based on the information from the commissioner for health in Ogun State, Dr Tomi Coker, all measures to stop the spreading of the diseases has been put to place after 28 people has been quarantined to 2 special biosecurity center in Lafarge cement, Ewekoro.
Also, he said the cement factory has been shut down shortly after the break of the news of the Italian man who was diagnosed and confirmed positive of coronavirus in Lagos isolation center after a sudden rise in temperature which could not be treated by the health officers in Ewekoro clinic.
While appreciating the Minister of health on synergy between him and the Ogun and Lagos commissioner in enabling total capture of the disease with provision of facilities needed at appropriate time.
He applauded the health officers of the Lafarge factory for their prompt action in transferring the Italian patient to corona virus center at the time when he had not started coughing and spitting to spread the disease.
He charged residents of Ogun to be very mindful of their respiratory system, washing of their hands regularly, using alcohol based sanitizer to wash their hands at all times, covering of their nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing in public.
Meanwhile, The transition chairman of Ewekoro local government, Hon. Emmanuel Olumuyiwa Babayemi has urged the residents to report any suspected case of corona virus to the nearest health center, he assured them of efforts of Commissioner for heath in Ogun State, Dr Tomi Coker through Governor Abiodun in arresting the virus before it spread across the state.
