An NSCDC patrol van has been burnt by some irate youths after one of the officials shot a tricycle rider for overtaking their vehicle.
Last time, we reported the news of the sales manager whose car was damaged by a policeman because he blared his horn at the officer. And now, it's a case of overtaking which resulted in the death of a Keke driver.
Irate youths reported that NSCDC officers shot the Keke driver who died on the spot
Our correspondent gathered that the incident happened along Oregun road, Ikeja Lagos State. The commercial tricycle driver overtook the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps patrol van which was carrying some officials. They caught up with the Keke driver and accused him of overtaking their van. One of them who was in a shooting mood shot the Keke driver whose identity wasn't known as at the time of this report.
Some youths who saw what transpired confronted the NSCDC officials and they fled the scene, abandoning their van which was set ablaze by the youths.
A video of the incident was posted on Instagram. From the footage, a man's voice was heard saying in vernacular,
"Civil defense na im kill the Keke driver. We don burn their pick-up."
He claimed that the tricycle rider died on the spot.
Another voice was also heard at the background saying,
"Because he overtook them."
However, the NSCDC spokesperson, Lagos Command, Kehinde Badah told reporters that the Keke driver who was shot in the leg didn't die. She hasn't got exact details of the incident though.
