A day-old baby had been found floating in a stream in Ijaiye area, Abeokuta, Ogun state, in what appears to be a case of deliberate disposal by a cruel mother.
Residents of the community reported that the mother was suspected to be a woman who had given birth ealier on Wednesday in a popular market around the area.
Attempt to rescue the child was furtile as the stick intended to draw it closer only pushed it father.
A resident identified as Ajiun told The Nation: ‘’We were shocked to discover the body of the baby floating on the river. It was a day old baby as revealed by his curly hair and umbilical cord which was still intact.
‘’It is sad that a child which is a divine gift from God could be so treated by a heartless mother this way. Such woman deserves curses and that was what residents did; we cursed mother of the baby.’’
