Police Foil Attempts To Defraud Ogun CP, Makama

A 52-year-old suspected fraudster, Tayo Ogunmola, has, no doubt, bitten more than he could chew as his criminal exploits on the caliber of a serving commissioner of police has landed him in trouble.

The suspect alleged threw a bait at the current commissioner of police (CP) in Ogun State, Bashir Makama, who pretentiously swallowed it hook, line and sinker for the purpose of traking him.

At the end of the "hide-and-seek" game, the fraudster was smoked out of his hideout and is currently cooling off his heels in the detention cell of Ogun State Police Command.

According to a press release made available to us, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, stated that the fraudster applied one his numerous fraudulent antics of sending a recharge card to the CP, only to be followed by a phone call, pretending to be an old herbalist who mistakenly sent a recharge card pin to the telephone number of the CP.

"As part of the game, he pleaded with his intending victim (CP Makama) to send back the pin to him", Oyeyemi said.

However, as someone familiar with such antics, the CP played along with him but involved operatives of the IGP's Intelligence Response Team (IRT) to technically track and apprehend the suspect.

The PPRO added that, at a stage, the suspect, apparently suspicious that he was dealing with a top police officer, changed his antic by introducing himself as a deputy-Inspector general of police (DIG), volunteering to render unsolicited assistance to the CP, provided he was prepared to part with an unspecified amount of money.

While still basking in the euphoria of making a head-way in his adventure, unsuspicious that security operatives were close to him, the reality of which dawned on him when the high-tech detectives swooped on him in his Araromi Phase II residence in Ilogbo, where he was arrested.

According to the police spokesman, "On interrogation, he confessed being a fraudster who had defrauded many unsuspecting members of the public of money running into millions of naira, from which he erected a building where currently lives in".

"Meanwhile, CP Makama has ordered the monitoring team to properly investigate the suspect with the view of arresting his other accomplices and arraign them before the court of competent jurisdiction", the PPRO said .
