The town of Ezinato in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State was on Wednesday thrown into mourning as a man reportedly killed his brother, Sebastian.
It was gathered that the man, Chinwendu Okeke was celebrating his victory in court over a protracted land dispute with his car when he allegedly crushed his brother, Sebastian.
According to an eye witness account, Chinwendu, a bus driver was oscillating in his vehicle in wild jubilation to demonstrate his excitement when he mistakenly ran over his brother.
Mrs Agnes Uche who spoke to journalists said “Chinwendu drove furiously around the village and while he was driving past his compound, his brother; Sebastian came out to caution him over his speed but he drove passed by.
“I think he latter saw his brother through the rear mirror and reversed to come and know what he was saying, but by then, his brother had already turned and was moving into the compound, when Chinwendu drove back and hit him.”
On his part, a brother to the deceased, Thompson Okeke said that Sebastian was rushed to Regina Caeli Hospital, but was referred to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital where he was confirmed dead.
He added, “We regret what happened. It was our senior brother that ran over him while he was celebrating the victory our village recently secured in court in a protracted land issue we had had with our neighbours, Umuanyom village.brother,
It was learnt that the Court of Appeal judgment favoured Ntoko Ezinato village against Umuayom Ezinato village and judgement subsequently threw the beneficiaries into jubilation when the news filtered in.
While some indigenes of the community were said to have taken to drinking to celebrate the victory, others simply ran around the village in joy.
The police in the state however could not confirm the incident as of the time of filing the story as the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Haruna Mohammed could not be reached on his telephone.
