Police Kill 3 Robbers In Ogun

Men of the Ogun state police command have killed three armed robbery suspects who engaged them in gun battle along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

The police in a statement issued yesterday in Abeokuta, by the command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi said the bandits were gunned down last Saturday at the Fidiwo village after a gun battle that lasted over half an hour.

The PPRO explained that the robbers had gone to the village where they attacked a female bush meat seller identified as Jumoke Ogunbade and dispossessed her of a total sum of over N10, 000 which she intended to pay to her supplier in the area.

Oyeyemi said policemen attached to the Owode Egba divisional headquarters in Obafemi-Owode local government area of the state had received a distressed call about the incident and hurriedly raced to the scene where the suspected robbers were caught in the act.

“On receiving the information, the Divisional Police Office Owode Egba Division, CSP Sheu Alao quickly led his Anti robbery team to the scene where they engaged the hoodlums in gun duel which lasted for about 30 minutes.

“At the end of the encounter, three members of the syndicate were gunned down while others escaped into the nearby bush with gunshot wound”.

According to the police’s spokesman, items recovered from the suspected robbers included; one locally made single barrel gun, one shot double barrel gun, one single barrel muzzle loading gun, one live cartridge, a wrist watch belonging to the victim of the attack and cash sum of N10, 220.

Meanwhile, the commissioner of police CP Ahmed Iliyasu commended the officers for the gallantry displayed in the course of bursting the crime and ordered serious manhunt for the fleeing members of the gang.

Iliyasu also appealed to members of the public, particularly hospitals, traditional healers and other health officials to report to the police if anybody with gunshot injuries is seen around their area.
