NERC, BEDC to sensitise consumers on illegal connection

DELTA State Government has urged the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, and the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, to sensitise consumers on the consequences of illegal connection. The Commissioner for Energy, Barrister NewWorld Safugha, gave the charge during the commissioning of NERC Consumer Complaint Forum Office in Asaba. Safugha while congratulating the NERC on the commissioning of the new office said the rate of electrocution in the state is becoming alarming and urged the regulatory body to do everything in its power to help save the lives of Deltans. The commissioner also urged NERC to look into the outrageous estimated billing of consumers, saying the issue had been of great concern to the state government and called on NERC to proffer solutions to it. While thanking BEDC for cooperating with the state government in resolving the long term power outage issues, Safugha added that power is key to the SMART agenda of the Okowa-led administration and that the state government would continue to partner with BEDC to ensure steady power supply across the state to boost the economy. Earlier, the Commissioner, Consumer Affairs, NERC, Dr. Moses Arigu, thanked the Delta State Government for being present at the commissioning and explained that the Customer Complaint Forum had been localised in terms of constituent members and location. Moses also enjoined the newly appointed forum members to approach their duties without fear or favour as the task before them is daunting.
